Things to Think About
“…Life tends to snap you at your weakest link. So it isn’t the strongest link you’re looking for…It isn’t even the average strength of the chain. It’s the weakest link that causes the problem.” Warren Buffet in a 1991 speech at Notre Dame University
I never tire of the common sense insights from Warren Buffet and this is sure a wonderful example on a number of levels. Think about it for a moment. How would you apply this, as a leader, to your team? The inertia of putting things off, things like making that change you know is needed, comes with an escalating price that can be insurmountable if one waits until the chain snaps. To me, this quote is especially relevant in today’s hyper-competitive world and it’s a wake-up call from Buffet for some honest, objective, self-reflection. There is no way that a leader can be strong in every area and a good leader knows exactly what their personal weak links are and does everything needed to strengthen those links, whether it’s with a content or functional expert, or a need for personal growth in some area.
Good luck with your chain!
