Things to Think About
When you speak, you only repeat what you know. But, if you listen, you may learn something new.” HH the Dalai Lama
Okay, okay, I can hear you saying to yourself, “Yeah, but what I know is important and I need to say it!” No problem, I get that, but let’s apply some contextual understanding to this wonderful quote from His Holiness the Dali Lama. Have you ever been in a discussion, or a meeting, when someone with something to say—a smart person with important information—didn’t know when to stop talking? Yes, you may have something important to say, but unless you ask—and listen—you won’t learn if you were understood. Another thing I’ve found over the years is that good ideas—important ideas—generally get better when they are discussed and there is a balance of talking and listening. Then, everybody learns and benefits.
Good luck on your journey!
