Things to Think About

“The higher we are placed, the more humble we should walk.”  Cicero

2,000 years ago, a Roman politician and lawyer, who arguably, had more influence than any other on the prose of Latin and European languages, sent to the future insights that are as relevant today as they were when he spoke them. Why? It’s because the higher one goes, in any field, the more people they impact with their example—a point that is apparently lost on so many today.  I say this because too often we find that people in authority feel that a different set of rules apply to them, and as this becomes increasingly apparent to those who look to them for leadership, they become fodder for sarcasm, cynicism, sabotage, and a myriad other forms of derision at which disillusioned people are very creative. So begins the death spiral of a leader’s brand and effectiveness.  In the 21st century, one thing we have discovered is that humility, in a leader, is indeed a sign of strength and, it is the kind of strength that grows and is perpetuated by the respect of others.

Good luck on your journey!
