Things to Think About 140
“Actually, failure is simply feedback, and it is one of the primary paths to growth because consequences are felt, rather than avoided.” Benjamin P. Hardy
In its simplest form, this reminds me of the old adage “Every generation must touch the stove to see that it’s hot.” What better example of consequences? Mom said, “Don’t touch the stove! It’s hot!” But when one fails to heed the advice, the consequences are immediately felt and result in that lesson being learned. You might even say that the person experienced a bit of growth as a result.
How beneficial to us, if we could only look at failure, in general, this way. Whether or not someone warned us, is not relevant. What is relevant, is that we learned something that didn’t work, which brings us closer to discovering a viable solution if we heed the lesson, recognize, or feel, the consequences and choose to grow. Sounds like a pretty healthy way to address one of life’s inevitabilities: failure.
