Things to Think About 107
“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” Aristotle
One of the most common complaints I hear is that someone just doesn’t listen to what others are saying. They have their mind made up and don’t want to be bothered by any other input. The reasons for this are many, but many times it’s because the person is feeling insecure about either the concept, or their ability to defend it. Over the years, I have found that the most confident leaders with whom I have worked actually encourage people to question their ideas. It doesn’t mean that they will accept the new thinking, but they realize the power that listening to others has on morale and corporate culture—active listening, the kind that explores and questions with its goal being to understand, not to defeat or accept, but to seek the truth. Think how powerful a team could become if the individuals on the team were open to entertaining new thinking with no expectations other than finding the truth. Good luck on your journey!
