Things to Think About 065

"Leave your front door and back door open. Let thoughts come and go. Just don't serve them tea." Shunryu Suzuki, meditation master

Many of the discussions I have with people revolve around past negative experiences—things that they continue to dwell on, which keeps them from developing a sustained level of self-esteem, or self-confidence. It’s as though they can’t let go of the thought. Negative thoughts are a human condition—we all have them. The difference between people with healthy levels of self-esteem and confidence and those who don’t is in how they handle those negative thoughts once they creep into consciousness. This quote—the wonderful visual image it creates—is from a meditation master, who is advising his students on how to avoid anxiety and negative thoughts when meditating. Have you been serving too much tea lately?

Till next time…
