Things to Think About 004
“The secret to success is to maintain enthusiasm between failures.”
Winston Churchill
Reading this quote always reminds me that the path to success, however we define it, is not linear, or a constant upward trajectory, as I have learned from my own experience—sometimes quite painfully. In fact, I could advance an argument that failure is an important element, not only to achieving success, but to the enjoyment of achieving success. Let’s face it, if the attainment of success—true, sustainable success of which one can be proud—were easy, it would greatly diminish the value and enjoyment of its achievement. Churchill wasn’t talking about being in denial about failure, he was talking about the role resilience plays in success—reaching down inside yourself, accepting the setback, learning from it and refusing to give up in your quest. This is how we learn, grow and develop as people. This is how we learn to be the master of our circumstances, not the slave.
