Things to Think About

“Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to achieve it.” HH The Dalai Lama

What an interesting perspective on success and how to evaluate it.  Like so much of what the Dalai Lama says, it’s subtle and simple, but profound.  Stop and think about it for a moment and what it says about someone.  Did they give up self-doubt, sleeping late, and procrastination, for example?  Or, did they give up a relationship?  It makes a wonderful question, not only to ponder in self-reflection but also one to ask in an interview.  Here’s how I would set it up: They say that success comes at a price, what have you paid, or given up on your success?  The interesting thing would be to see what the person’s perspective is: positive, as in I gave up instant gratification because I knew it worth it to work hard, or negative, as in I left my fiancé because she wanted me to spend more time with her.  These are two different views, for sure, and they represent a lot to explore in a discussion, which could reveal volumes about the person.

Good luck on your journey!
