Many years ago, the members of the Board of Advisors at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business were asked what the most important attribute of a successful leader was. It was an almost unanimous response: self-awareness.
This quote embodies the essence of corporate self-awareness and it resonates with me because so many of the times I am called in to help an organization, it comes down to internal politics and a toxic culture. Good leaders see this quote as a wake-up call for honest, objective reflection, while great leaders, after reflecting, act.
