Things to Think About 130

Are You Biased?

How many times have you heard someone say, “I just tell it like it is.”

In today’s world, when we’re struggling with trying to understand this thing called globalization, there are many areas in which a personal bias can arise.

The important thing to me, in all this is to understand where our individual baseline of openness and understanding is, in general. Who are we as observers, as evaluators, as citizens of planet earth in civil society?

It’s so easy to look outside ourselves in evaluating other ideas, concepts, or people, but rarely do we look inside when we conduct these evaluations. At least I know it’s hard for me at times. One thing that I have found that helps me work through my own ego and self-enhancement bias, is to recall this wonderful quote from Anais Nin. It is simple, powerful, and quite humbling.

"We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are."

Good luck on your journey!
