Things to Think About
"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought." Albert Gyorgyi, Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of vitamin C
What a celebration of intellectual curiosity this wonderful quote represents. Each and every day we encounter things that exemplify Gyorgyi’s words—from using the Internet to connect people socially, to creating a global business based on a hamburger, too much smaller things like Post-it Notes, or one of my favorites: the person who figured out that an artichoke is edible. To me, the people who thought of these things—and actually did something—are people who refused to be lulled into an accepted routine of thinking. This is something I believe we are all capable of doing. Think about it. No matter what your role is; sales, customer service, IT, finance, HR, parent, spouse, teacher, leader, etc., etc., what dots are out there just waiting for you to connect them? How do you find them? One way is to refuse to be lulled into complacency, into habits that rob you of actually thinking—to connect a need with a solution that others may have seen, but never put together. Intellectual curiosity can be a lot of fun if you play with it.
Good luck on your journey!
