Things to Think About
“You change people, or you change people.” Anonymous
This little gem of a quote is packed with so much wisdom for leaders. Two key things good leaders must do: Bring out the best in others and, make tough decisions at times. There is no question that there is a learning curve for us all when we encounter a new position or face a new challenge we haven’t experienced before. So, since good leaders are also good coaches, they will do what they can to make sure we are introduced to the new situation properly. This may involve a change in the way we have approached things in the past. It could even involve a new skill, a perspective, or an attitude that is needed to be successful. But sometimes, for some reason, we aren’t able to make the desired change. This is where the tough decision part comes in for a leader. Many times, over the years, I have had leaders tell me, as they reflect on an employee, “I know now that I should have made a change sooner.” It’s not easy being a leader, for sure, but with compassion and willingness to help someone find that situation that will allow them to do what they are best at and flourish, you are helping them and helping your business, not to mention your brand as a leader.
Good luck on your journey!
