Things to Think About
“If you want to hire and retain chess players, you can’t treat them like chess pieces.” Anonymous
What a wonderful reminder of what it takes to be a leader in the 21st century. Leaders today are facing so many challenges from every direction, that they must surround themselves with “chess players”—people who can think three of four moves ahead and who can pick up on the market nuances before they become competitive advantages for someone else. Leaders who do not take seriously the importance of developing chess players are only keeping the chess pieces in a holding pattern until someone else sees the potential in them to become players and hires them away. Look around you. Honestly ask yourself what you are doing to develop, with ongoing, meaningful support, the players you need in order to truly play this game of business to win.
Good luck on your journey!
