Things to Think About 119

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." Eleanor Roosevelt

Former First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt, was well known for her down-to-earth and inspirational common sense. I have used this quote many times over the years in training young consultants who were learning how to deal with clients and senior executives. Accepting the fact that someone else may be senior in status is one thing, that’s the way organizational and social structure works. This is where politeness and humility have a place in human interaction. Feeling inferior, however, is a completely different thing. The people who try to make others feel that way are trying to hide their own inadequacies through intimidating others.

So, the next time you encounter someone like this, or advise some who is about to meet someone like this, remember Mrs. Roosevelt’s words and don’t give them permission. Trust me, they`ll sense this immediately and move on to other prey.

Good luck on your journey
