To me, this sums up quite nicely, what I feel is at the heart of self-respect and a healthy sense of self-confidence--a perspective on life that timid souls will never know. In addition, for those who have experienced what President Roosevelt speaks of, it gives them a sense of empathy and patience for others as they serve their time in the “arena”.
