When does your life as a professional really begin?

I was asked recently to speak to a group of high-potential executives in a global telecommunications company.  Senior management wanted to instill in these young leaders of tomorrow the need to explore, to try new functional areas, new geographies, any number of things that would help them grow, especially in the context of a global enterprise.  It may not be comfortable at first, but the price of discomfort today would bring substantial dividends in the way of career advancement in the future.

In my research for the talk I came across this wonderful quote from Cecilia Flatum.  “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”.
