Things to Think About 049

"A negative look from someone else may mean nothing more than they're constipated!" Daniel Amen

I love this reminder of the scripts we write, the false inferences we make when we encounter other people. It could be the check-out person at Tesco, a waiter, a taxi driver, someone in an elevator, a loved one—anyone really. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have allowed my imagination run wild in circumstances like these. “Well!, if that’s the way they want to be, I’ll show them!”, is generally how it starts. But, what I have tried to do over the years is to stop, before reacting, or forming an opinion, and think about all the things that person might be going through—all the times in my life when I wouldn’t have been smiling. Give it a try. The next time someone gives you what you think is a negative look, remember Dr. Amen’s quote and…don’t forget to smile.

Till next time…
